Hallstatt

Our hotel, Grüner Baum, was perfectly situated with the lake on one side and the town square on the other. We arrived at midday -- well-timed for a relaxing lake-side lunch at the hotel.

It's no wonder beautiful Hallstatt is a tourist favorite, but that means it can get a little crowded. If you want a picture of the square without tourists, I recommend taking it at 5am :)

Often in Europe you don't need to know the language because they make good use of picture signs. Of course that doesn't always help . . . maybe this one means "Caution - energetic waiter crossing"?

Click the pretzel to explore the Charnel House (if you can pull yourself away from the relaxing views!)
